Egle Karpaviciute – winner of The Premio Combat Prize
These summer months have brought happy news to the Lithuanian painter Egle Karpaviciute. The artist became the winner of two prestigious art contests. One of them was “Premio Combat Prize 2015” held in Italy for the sixth time this year with participation of 1,300 artists from all around the world. Five categories were distinguished in the programme: painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture/installation and video art. As many as 600 artists competed in the painting category, in which the Lithuanian artist came out the winner. The jury consisting of prominent Italian art critics, curators, gallerists and collectors noted not only the Lithuanian painter’s technique, but also her conceptual approach to painting and the development of art history. An exhibition of the finalists’ works was held in the Giovanni Fattori Museum in Livorno, and a solemn prize-awarding ceremony took place in the mirror hall of the Mimbelli villa, which belongs to the museum. Karpaviciute was awarded a diploma and a 6,000 euro prize. Another Lithuanian painter, Kristina Alisauskaite, received a special mention of the jury. The publishing house Sillabe published a catalogue specially for this contest.
