Art Vilnius 2019
On 30 May – 2 June 2019, The Rooster Gallery takes part in the 10th international contemporary art fair ARTVILNIUS’19. The newest works by the gallery’s represented artists Kristina Ališauskaitė, Raminta Blaževičiūtė, Tomas Daukša, Eglė Karpavičiūtė, Alina Melnikova, Auksė Miliukaitė, Vita Opolskytė and Andrius Zakarauskas will be presented at the exhibition.
This year The Rooster Gallery will invite to experience the artworks in an unconventional space. Questioning the tradition to display art in a neutral environment (so called white cube), rich blue walls of the gallery booth will become an important element of the exhibition, complementing the artworks both aesthetically and emotionally. Colour, light and reflections will reveal, illuminate the objects and concurrently deceive the gaze, lead it astray, draw the viewer into the ephemeral accumulation of images. The feeling of weightlessness of the exhibition structure will encourage exploring the in-between states and transformations.
The feeling of being in-between, transition from one state to another is also conveyed in the artworks. This idea often manifests in the narrative of the works and indicates cultural, religious, and psychological changes. And at times the concept of transformation materializes in the visual language of the artworks, as if one matter becoming another. Sometimes the process is mystical and reminding of the act of alchemy, sometimes by testing and transgressing the limits of different media, so that paintings become screens.
