river flowing in the veins
I’m tickled by pleasures hidden in the senses.
I can see filtrated sewage flowing in my veins.
Gurgling water between the walls, in the pipes, reminds me of Icelandic waterfalls.
As ice is melting, I can see traces left by water.
Touching the canvases that have been bathing in springs, I imagine what it feels to bathe.
Perhaps, if you step into a memory puddle, you will also leave something behind?

The Rooster Gallery cordially invites you to the exhibition of works by Aukse Miliukaite, river flowing in the veins, which will be open from 1st to 30th of April in the gallery’s space at 12 Šv. Brunono Bonifaco St. Opening hours of the gallery: IV-VI 16.00–19.00, VII 14.00–17.00
Auksė Miliukaitė uses painting to create an oasis of senses. Making use of various materials found in nature (sand, natural pigments, algae, ashes, flowers and blood) and remnants of objects obtained in the city and elsewhere (plastic packaging, petrol, oil, milk, dental aligners, alginate masks), the artist awakens the viewer’s associations not only through vision, but also through touch, smell and hearing. The painter’s solo exhibition “river flowing in the veins” presents Miliukaitė’s latest works, part of which were created during her stay in the SIM residency (Reykjavik). Another topic characteristic of her works is the memory of fluids. The artist explores this topic by creating ice figurines, which leave a colour trace as they melt, thus morphing into new works. The exhibition space (which is situated next to the Vilniaus vandenys (The Waters of Vilnius) company at the Vilnelė River) is closely related to the topic addressed by the artist in her works. Interestingly, memory carried by the water of the Vilnelė River or the water used by the residents of Vilnius finds itself (even physically) close to the artist’s works, which address the subject of how we experience time and also the ability of water to retain memory. While rethinking the journey of water and what kind of information we leave behind, the artist draws attention to what connects us, mixing fluids of various shapes and imagining what life forms we create or retain, looking from bird’s-eye view or from underground.
