LET IT SHINE
The Rooster Gallery is participating in the 9th Vilnius Gallery Weekend (VGW) and invites the gallerygoers to visit artist Tomas Daukša’s installation “Let It Shine” from September 5–8. This year, The Rooster Gallery is part of the VGW “Habits” curated program, which encourages a rethinking and reshaping of the habits of galleries and their visitors by swapping spaces. Therefore, VGW visitors will be able to view T. Daukša’s installation in the the single-artwork gallery “apiece” space, located in Sofija Kymantaitė-Čiurlionienė Square (M. K. Čiurlionio St., Vilnius).
Tomas Daukša (b. 1988) graduated in painting from the Vilnius Academy of Arts, where he also earned his PhD in 2019. His work has been exhibited in institutions in Lithuania and abroad, and has been featured in international contemporary art fairs. Daukša’s works are part of the collections of the Lithuanian National Museum of Art, the MO Museum, and various private collections.
Initially trained as a painter, Daukša now explores his artistic research through various forms of expression, primarily focusing on sculptural objects. In his work, Daukša examines the properties of different systems, their operating principles, and the possibilities of transformation. His artistic practice merges contemporary art formats with insights from various scientific disciplines. While his creative methods are often based on scientific logic, the visual aspect, form, and materiality of the work are also of great importance.
“The object writhing in the gallery is an amalgamation that has grown from a compost heap of ideas. It resembles earlier works but is not entirely similar to any of them. Like in a greenhouse, it warms up in its own light. The light fills the small gallery space and streams outside through the glass, but it’s not entirely clear whether it promises safety and warmth or warns of potential danger,” says the artist about the installation “Let It Shine.” The work was exhibited earlier this year at the Pamario Gallery of the Lithuanian National Museum of Art in Juodkrantė as part of the “Migrating Museum” project.”
“The Rooster Gallery began its activities as a mobile gallery without a permanent space. Although we now have an exhibition space, we are still intrigued by the opportunity to present the works of our gallery artists in other spaces and new contexts,” says the gallery’s director, Jurgita Juospaitytė-Bitinienė. During VGW, The Rooster Gallery (Šv. Brunono Bonifaco St. 12, Vilnius) will host an exhibition by artist Artūras Čertovas titled “Impermanent Nature”, organized by the “apiece” gallery.
Tomas Daukša’s installation “Let It Shine” at the “apiece” gallery will be on view starting September 5th at 6 p.m. The installation can be visited until October 6th at any time of day.
We invite you to meet the artist Tomas Daukša on September 6th at 6 p.m. at the “apiece” gallery space.
