NOOX

The Rooster Gallery kindly invites you to the exhibition „Noox“ by Anna Malicka, The exhibition will be on display at the gallery space (Šv. Brunono Bonifaco St. 12, Vilnius). The opening will take place on September 24, 6 p. m.

A surface can be turned into a room, but only if you join a couple of them edge-to-edge, or fold them into a volume. Something that was a façade a moment ago, becomes three-dimensional. A room is created through active participation, and the intersection of the edges is the corner where energy accumulates. Noox is a mental image of Anna’s ongoing practice and an extension of her artist’s persona.

Anna’s main motor for worldbuilding gathers multiple threads of material research that get turned into the exploration of experimental handicraft. The show encompasses works made in drawing and paperworks, textile and lace, woodworks and assemblage. In Latvian folk tradition, one must sweep the corners of rooms, to allow the space to breathe. The vibrations of texture and linework create a veil to look through, skewing the view between the inside and the outside, reverberating through material and thought. The exhibition invites the spectator to partake in the process as witnessing the room gives it life and meaning.
While the artist calls it “an unreal estate agency”, Noox can be understood as the very antithesis of a liminal space. Though it operates as a gallery installation rather than a structural room, it embodies a distinct “roominess”, whose very spirit is grounding and inhabited. These nooks and crannies are places where one can have various experiences materialise and feel them as if they are truly happening.

Anna Malicka (1995) is a visual artist based in Riga, Latvia. Her practice unfolds through drawing, textile, installation, and her alter-ego Otra Pussyte, a mediating figure who inhabits its performative and audiovisual register. Rooted in material play and craft processes, her practice operates through gathering into construction. Malicka cultivates an evolving visual language that migrates between materials, objects, and imagined architectures, gradually accumulating into Unreal Estate Agency — an ongoing framework where material translations of interior landscapes become sites of dwelling.
Malicka holds a BA from the audiovisual department Motion. Image. Sound (2020) and an MA from the interdisciplinary department POST (2023) at the Art Academy of Latvia. She completed a residency in London (2024) through the ACME Studios Early Career Programme. Malicka was nominated for the Annual Art Award of Latvia in 2025 and received the Linstow Art Award (2025) and the Helen Scott Lidgett Studio Award (2024) She is part of the artist collectives PR0_Bi$TR0 and Latvanija.
Gallery opening hours: Thu–Sat 16:00–19:00, Sun 14:00–17:00. The exhibition will be on display until October 11.
